British Columbia on the Nautilus Explorer |
|
|
Overview This was a 6 day trip on the Nautilus Explorer. Essentially this was a repeat of my trip last year. Most of what I said then still applies so I'll just treat this as a quick update. Like last year this was an Optiquatics photo charter. If you want to learn how to take pictures or improve your technicqe I highly recommend signing up for one of these trips. New DM "Judith (Diver Jud) was great and has now signed up for a full time gig on the boat. Good hire Mike! :-) Another nice addition from last year was the installation of the shower on the back deck. We also liked the new anchor winch which is much, much quieter than the previous version. The food was about the same as last year which was a bit of a disappointment. More variety and healthier food are in order IMHO. Diving this year was even better than last year which is saying something. We saw lots of Octos this time and had several memorable encounters. Dillon Rock in particular was filthy with them but we also saw them at Browning Wall, Snowflake, Hussar Point and several other spots. The wreck of the Columbia was better too as on this trip we actually got good vis there. As with last year vis and overall conditions at the north end of Vancouver Island were spectacular. 50 to 80 foot vis was typical, it was always flat and we had sunny skies for the whole trip. I'll be back in about 8 months for Phil Sammet's epic 2 week Alaska adventure. I can't wait. British Columbia Photo Gallery Happy Diving, Clinton |
